I'll start by saying I do love a good female protagonist and they're are lots of them. I have quite a few series based on one. But they do piss me off. I'm not sure why it seems that the heroine is unable to keep her damn mouth shut sometimes. What is that saying about the better part of valor?
These women have no internal censor, no discretion and at times no clue. I know that without conflict there is no story, without story, there is no book. I get that, I really really do. But why would you kick a hornets nest? Let these female protagonists have their conflict, there stories but for god's sake, don't make them say stupid shit to the guy with the gun to there heads, even when we know they'll come out of it okay, it's cringe-worthy to have her make a penis joke when the unstable bad guy is already two seconds away from shooting them in the head.
I'm not suggesting you make them meek and uninteresting, I'm suggesting you give them common sense. While tied to a chair in an underground lab with zombies closing in from every side is probably not the best time to make reference to the bad guys gimpy arm, bad fashion sense or lack of love as a child.
Have I made my point? I hope so.
